In this post I am going to cover the reasons for starting this website and what you can get out of this blog.
I’ve seen you out there. I’ve see you punching it at work, punching in on the couch, punching in on the bed. Rinse and Repeat. Over and over. Forever. I’ve fallen into this situation many times myself in the past. Not really sad, definitely not happy. Existing. Current popular psychology would demand a lot of navel gazing and soul searching to find what the root of these issues are. Maybe Mommy didn’t let you have Capri Suns when you were a kid. Whatever. I am neither qualified to analyze, nor do I care, as we can fix it regardless.
Now, let me explain what else I’ve seen. I’ve seen you light up once they are doing something interesting. And I noticed when it was physical in nature, you were even happier. Men need quests, goals, mountains to climb, dragons to slay. Something that lights a fire and puts reason to their action. It needs to be both hard and worthy.
I have been lucky to be involved with a men’s fitness group call F3 (more detailed post on it later). It is a men’s group that starts with early morning bootcamp workouts and evolves into bible studies, get togethers, events, some of everything. I have seen it be a trigger to a lot of men “turning back on”. Just knowing that they are getting out of the house, bull shitting with their new buddies, and getting a good workout dramatically improved their energy, their attitude, and their life. I have had their wives come up and thank me for “waking their husband up” and “putting a smile on their face again” All this with a free workout group? Yes, because they were taking action and doing something hard.
Ok, I don’t want to get into motivational mode as that is not the purpose of this site. The #1 hurdle I see to people taking action on these types of quests / adventures is a false sense of what it requires. Many a great adventure is lost because:
- You don’t even know what you want to do.
- You think it costs way more than it actually does
- You do not know what is required to do it
- You are not fit enough to achieve it
- You do not know where to start
This is where this blog will step in. I am going to provide the inspiration and the base “know how” through:
- Training / How to articles
- Equipment reviews
- Interviews with those who know about it or have done it
- Detailed examples of what is required for certain events
- Reviews of companies that can help you with this
- Actual training and events for them to participate in
The good news is that this won’t just be me. I have some good friends doing some very interesting things that are also going to be contributing and I hope to gather more along the way.
For us men, happiness is often found in the “do”. Don’t let anyone tell you any different. We’re going to find some great things together.
Here’s how you can help me do it:
